Ultraviolet spectroscopic observations of the interstellar gas between the sun and the distant, high latitude O star HD93521 were obtained. The column densities of a number of interstellar gaseous species as a function of radial velocity were determined by profile fitting the data, and earlier visual and radio data for this line of sight. The volume densities, gas phase abundances, and other physical conditions parameters of the gas were derived. A comparison with the areal information about the high galactic latitude sky provided by 21 cm mapping, soft X-ray mapping, and the recurrence of particular velocity components in interstellar absorption toward other stars enabled a model for the local high latitude interstellar medium to be formulated.
