The effect of cosmic ray screening, due to the mechanism suggested by Skilling and Strong, upon the stability of interstellar clouds is investigated. A linear analysis of the stability of a diffuse cloud imbedded in a warm intercloud medium is performed. It is concluded that if a substantial number of interstellar clouds with column densities between about 10 to the 19th to 10 to the 20th per square centimeter exists, a significant upper limit could be placed upon the intercloud low energy cosmic ray flux.
