The Fe abundance in H-H 1 is studied on the basis of observed forbidden lines of Fe II and Fe III, which are assumed to be formed in high-density regions. The quantum-mechanical collisional cross sections of Garstang et al. (1978) are used to calculate the Fe III equilibrium, while scaled classical cross sections are employed for the Fe II equilibrium. It is found that the Fe III abundance corresponds to 6% to 10% of the total Fe abundance in Population I stars and that the Fe II abundance is 41% to 67% of the same total Fe abundance. These results are taken as evidence that the total Fe abundance in Herbig-Haro objects is not substantially different from a stellar Population I abundance and that there is no Fe depletion due to dust formation inside such objects. Results are presented for spectrophotometry of condensation H in H-H 2. An electron temperature of about 12,000 K and an electron density of approximately 20,000 per cu cm are estimated for condensation H.
