The chemistry of high energy content molecules was investigated. In particular, the mechanisms by which these compounds rearrange to generate electronically excited states was probed. A new mechanism for chemiexcitation involving chemically initiated electron transfer was discovered. It was shown that this mechanism is applicable to many chemi and bioluminescent processes.
