The Hubble diagram of 76 QSOs divided into subgroups according to the spectral index of their optical continua is examined. A strong correlation is found for objects with a flat continuum, and no correlation at all for the ones with a steep continuum. The latter seem to be the main cause for the large scatter in the Hubble diagram of QSOs. Objects with spectral indices of less than 1.2 have an improved Hubble relation which is consistent with a nonevolutionary cosmology characterized by a deceleration parameter equal to unity.
