Scattering of Ly-alpha photons in an expanding medium for the case of high opacity in the Lorentz wings of the line profile is treated with allowance for true frequency redistribution. The Ly-alpha emission spectrum is determined for an infinite medium. Local-scattering criteria are established for the problem of Ly-alpha photons scattered in an expanding envelope. These criteria differ fundamentally for determining the number of Ly-alpha scattering events and the Ly-alpha emission spectrum. The scattering of Ly-alpha photons in supernova envelopes is discussed briefly.
