The interstellar H2CO/H2CS abundance ratio was investigated by means of observations of the 3-GHz absorption of H2CS in dense H2CO clouds, most of which were in association with continuum sources. The H2CS 2(11)-2(12) transition was detected towards a total of 11 continuum sources at a rest frequency of 3139.391 + or - 0.002 MHz. Formaldehyde/thioformaldehyde optical depth ratios from 100-340 are calculated from the H2CS spectra, and used to estimate H2CO/H2CS abundance ratios between 7 and 22, with a median of 9.0. These values are significantly lower than the usually accepted O/S cosmic abundance ratio of 40, suggesting the presence of preferential selection effects in molecular formation.
