Ultraviolet observations of Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars obtained prior to and with International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) were reviewed. The IUE data allow accurate interstellar reddening corrections and color temperatures to be determined for a large sample of stars. WR stellar wind terminal velocities show a strong correlation with WN subclass in both galactic and LMC stars. A revised mass loss rate scale for WR stars is discussed. Values of dM/dt for WR stars are much greater than the limit L/V infinity C, indicating a mechanism other than radiation pressure drives the mass loss. Current ideas concerning the chemistry and evolutionary status of the WR stars are addressed.
