International Ultraviolet Explorer observations were used to investigate the UV surface brightness distribution in the central region of M31 to determine the origin of the excess UV light found there. From a comparison with previous UV photometric measurements it is found that the UV distribution is similar to the B light distribution. A possible steeper gradient in the inner bulge is also discussed. Hot stars in old stellar population are thus suggested as the major source of the excess UV light.
