A self-similar approach is used to obtain a solution for a rapidly attenuated variable detonation which models the explosion occurring during the relativistic gravitational collapse of a dust body of finite mass. It is assumed that there is total absorption of thermal energy with subsequent reconstruction of the equilibrium position of the body behind the shock wave. The self-similar solution shows that a rapid reconstruction of the equilibrium position leads to a 40% collapse of the characteristic radius of the dust body; the degree of collapse decreases when relativistic effects are taken into account.
