It is assumed that the source of the radio emission in pulsars is the growth of plasma instabilities in the open magnetosphere above the neutron star magnetic poles. An expression for the angular equivalent beamwidth is obtained from the properties of a previously published model of pair creation (Papers I and II). The observed pulsars are not expected to be homogeneous in mass or magnetic field, but, with this proviso, the predicted magnitude and period dependence of the angular beamwidth are in satisfactory agreement with observationally based values found from the pulse widths and from the magnetic alignment model values of sin psi (psi is the angle between the magnetic axis and the spin vector). Since the model prediction is very highly constrained, the good agreement with observation is put forward as evidence that the assumptions made about the source of the radio emission are at least qualitatively correct.
