The diffuse 4430 Å feature of interstellar origin in the Large Magellanic Cloud has been studied from the spectra of a number of reddened and comparison early type supergiants in the LMC. The spectra were obtained at a dispersion of 29 Å/mm between 4200 and 4720 Å with the ESO 3.6 m telescope. The strength of the 4430 Å absorption in the mean spectrum of the reddened LMC stars is compatible with that predicted from the mean colour excess, EB-V, by the mean galactic relationship between W4430 and EB-V.
