A stellar chopping photometer constructed to overcome the difficulties of variable sky background imposed by the aurora is described. The frequency of the chopper ranges from 1 Hz to 20 Hz, and even at the lowest frequency most of the errors imposed on the star measurements by the variable sky background were eliminated. The background sky was on the average equal to 18-19 m star/sq arcsec in the V band, varying by several magnitudes in the course of few seconds.
