The problems of stellar population in the neighborhood of the Sun are examined, in view of a systematic search expected by an astrometric satellite. Many M-type faint stars are presumably to be discovered within 20 pc of the Sun; most of them, have too faint absolute and apparent magnitudes. More promising appears the situation when stars with small velocity relative to the Sun are considered. Improved astrometric data might help toward a decision concerning the physical connection among wide multiple systems.
