The history of the development of the big bang model is reviewed. The development of the ideas concerning the primordial mix from which the elements were formed and the relative abundance distribution of the elements are examined. The predictions of fossil radiation and cosmic background radiation are discussed. The equations of the standard model of hot big bang cosmology and a timetable of events in the early epochs of the expanding universe are presented.
