The monthly and yearly mean values of the IMF B(z) component, the sunspot number, and the AE and aa geomagnetic disturbance indices for the period 1966-1984 are presented. It is shown that there is no obvious relationship between the yearly mean values of IMF B(z) and the AE (and/or aa) index. In addition, no obvious sunspot cycle variations are found, although the AE and aa indices show a prominent peak during the declining epoch of the sunspot cycles, reflecting effects of high speed streams. It is suggested that the results could mean that a high frequency (hourly or less) fluctuation across B(z) of about 0 does not contribute significantly to monthly mean values of the IMF B(z).
