The fine structure of Fraunhofer lines observed during the flare of October 7, 1979 is studied. The line asymmetry is shown to be dependent on the formation depth of the lines and on the flare phase. The observed variations may be explained by an increase in the velocity of the ascent of matter in the photospheric and chromospheric layers in the initial phase of the flare and by its subsequent descent.
