Scientific paper

A theoretical model for electron density in the midlatitude F2-region
and the topside ionosphere up to 500 km is developed which accounts for
the role of excited-state N2 and excited O(+) ions. Vertikal-4 data are
used to verify the validity of the computational scheme.
