The most characteristic types of latitude profiles of F2-region critical frequencies in the nighttime subauroral ionosphere in solar-maximum years were identified on the basis of coordinated measurements from the Intercosmos-19 and ground-based vertical-sounding stations. An empirical formula is obtained for the dependence of the invariant latitude of the polar wall of the main ionospheric trough on local time and geomagnetic activity.
