Scientific paper
The most certain members of the Virgo cluster have a luminosity weighted mean redshift of v0L = 863 km s-1. This is significantly different from the values in common use of v0 = 967 km s-1 (Tammann and Sandage) and >v0< = 1165 km s -1 (de Vaucouleurs). It is necessary to adopt the mean redshift of the mass of the material which defines the cluster. Naturally this lowers any value of the Hubble constant based on the Virgo cluster. The discrepancy between the luminosity weighted mean and the number mean is due to the fact that the higher redshift members have fainter apparent magnitudes.
