The authors present CCD and spectroscopic observations of Mk 178. This object is a Blue Compact Galaxy that shows the peculiarity of having two bright H II regions near its center. Its proximity gives the opportunity of observing two individual star-forming regions. The CCD images are characterized in the continuum bands by the existence of the two knots of rather different colors, surrounded by a patchy nebulosity. The image taken through a narrow filter around the [O III] λ5007 line shows a different morphology, where the two nuclei are not visible. The study of the two-dimensional spectrum of the object has shown the difference in physical conditions, chemical abundances and ages between both knots. The younger one is characterized by the presence of a strong bump at 4686 Å, indicating the existence of Wolf-Rayet stars.
