An account is given of three months of photographic and spectrographic observations of the supernova 1982B in NGC 2268. Light and color curve shapes, in conjunction with the evolution of the spectral features, indicate that SN 1982B is of Ia subtype. The absolute magnitude at maximum derived, of -19.65+5 log(H/100), is higher than typical of type I supernovae. It is stressed that type Ia supernovae are the result of similar processes occurring in a comparatively homogeneous class of stars.
