While previous investigations have focused on the effect of resonant mode coupling, we explore the consequences of a simple model of linear driving and non-linear, non-resonant damping of modes in pulsating white dwarfs. For an assumed spectrum of modes, we find that those with the largest growth rates have the largest final amplitudes, and that smaller growth rate modes can become damped and have final amplitudes of zero. This general trend mimics what is observed in these stars.
