This thesis first surveys current studies to identify possible solar origins of recurrent geomagnetic storms. Using the superposed epochs method, I test, over the last 20 years as subdivided in 4 half cycles of solar activity, a theory that optical activity centers with at least 2 radio bursts between 2 and 10 GHz (from 3 to 15 cm) give rise to recurrent geomagnetic storms. The results are compared with earlier statistical studies and with data from interplanetary spacecrafts between the Sun and the Earth, and agree with the origins coming from the optical activity centers. A stronger link seems to exist between (1) unipolar magnetic regions on the Sun and their associated ghosts, and (2) recurrent geomagentic storms via the interplanetary sector structures (positive and negative).
