Studies of young stellar objects and their associated disks can provide constraints on theories of planet formation. Disk lifetimes can determine the amount of time available for the formation of planets. Accurate stellar ages are important for the study of circumstellar disks and can be determined from the photospheric properties of the associated young stellar objects. We present the results of a survey of the photospheres of young stellar objects in the ρ-Ophiuchus star formation region. Using near-infrared spectra, we assign spectral types to the heavily reddened objects, determine extinctions, and measure surface gravities. We then look for a correlation between surface gravities and luminosities.
