A computer technique has been developed for processing data from an experiment involving the investigation of variations of C-14 concentration in specimens of known age. The objective of the experiment is to determine the radioactivity of cosmogenic C-14 in a specimen introduced into a scintillation or proportional counter in the presence of a cosmic-ray background, and to compare this radioactivity with the radioactivity of a reference specimen. The mathematical processing procedure which is described makes it possible to completely automate the data processing, to improve the verification of the results, and to carry out a detailed statistical analysis of the data.
