The time variation of solar activity is investigated by analyzing detailed experimental data on radiocarbon concentration in dated samples, and the results are compared with the predictions of Maunder minimum models. The results obtained indicate a gradual decrease in the solar activity. It is also shown that periods of low solar activity similar to the Maunder minimum occur regularly throughout the sun history; the general time variation of radiocarbon concentration points to the existence of several solar activity cycles of various durations.
