A compact source has been discovered in Cas A by observations of radio scintillations due to interplanetary plasma inhomogeneities. At 20 and 25 MHz, the angular dimensions of the source are 3.0 plus or minus 1.8 and 2.9 plus or minus 1.7 arcsec and the flux densities are 8000 plus or minus 5500 and 4300 plus or minus 3000 Jy, respectively. The source is characterized by a steep radiation spectrum in the range 3-111 MHz, with a spectral index of about 2. Radio observations in the decametric range have also yielded the following parameters for the compact source in the Crab Nebula: the angular dimensions are 3.3 plus or minus 2.3, 2.5 plus or minus 1.7, 2 plus or minus 1.3, and 1.5 plus or minus 1 arcsec, and its contribution to the total flux of the nebula is 0.7 plus or minus 0.2, 0.08 plus or minus 0.09, 0.4 plus or minus 0.06, and 0.33 plus or minus 0.04 at 12.6, 16.7, 20, and 25 MHz, respectively. Without the compact source, the spectra of both supernova remnants are flattened.
