Interference filter photographs have been obtained of faint filaments of the supernova remnant CTA 1 which reveal this remnant's overall optical structure. The remnant's nebulosity shows very strong forbidden O III emission and has a generally diffuse appearance. Although the radio contours at 2695 MHz coincide with many of the features of the optical nebulosity, in the northeast the optical emission extends considerably beyond the radio emission. A spectrum of one position in the nebula shows strong forbidden S II 6717,6731 A lines relative to H-alpha, which is consistent with the optical emission from a supernova remnant.
