An analysis is carried out of the extent to which the data on the
gamma-ray sources in the 2CG catalogue of Swanenburg et al. (1981) are
consistent with the contention that approximately 60% of the sources are
molecular clouds irradiated by cosmic rays. It is found that while proof
is not yet possible, there is a measure of support for the contention.
