The discovery of the Jewitt-Luu objects orbiting the Sun beyond Pluto is discussed. They are referred to as `objects' because the experts are still debating whether to classify them as planets, asteroids, or comets. They may lie within the Kuiper belt, the hypothetical reservoir of comets postulated by Gerard Kuiper to exist in the ecliptic plane just outside the region occupied by planets. The discovery of the Jewitt-Luu objects lends strong support to the notion that the Kuiper Belt really exists. The use of occultation astronomy to unlock the secrets of the Kuiper Belt is presented. Topics covered include the following: Kuiper Belt occultations, gravitational lensing by rogue planets, and telescope array design.
