The effects of magnetic reconnection as a mechanism of excitation of filaments with optical emission lines observed in cooling flows in clusters of galaxies are studied. Hydrodynamical time dependent calculations to follow the evolution of cooling condensations until the phase of optical line emission are used. The results indicate that a much better agreement with observational results of emission line intensities and line ratios is attained when an active participation of the magnetic field through reconnection is included.
