The optical quality of the Couder telescope has recently been shown to be comparable to that of the Schmidt camera, giving images smaller than 0.5 arcsec in diameter at f/3 over a field 3-deg in diameter in its original form, and if its design is modified the aperture can be increased to f/2.5 (or even f/2) with images under 0.4 arcsec over 3.6-deg (or 1 arcsec over 4.5-deg). The present paper describes the method of designing an f/1.5 modified Couder telescope that gives images smaller than 1 arcsec over a field of 2-deg. Other details of this and the f/2 and f/2.5 systems are discussed, including the design of sky fog baffles, vignetting and the non-uniformity of illumination across the field, the sensitivity of the image quality to misalignment, and the properties of the system in terms of Burch's method of plate-diagram analysis.
