Ambipolar diffusion (ion-neutral velocity drift) is a process which has
important consequences for the structure of shocks in the interstellar
gas and for the chemical processes occurring in such shocks. The authors
suggest a chemical test of ambipolar diffusion which should also yield
information on the local magnetic field strength.
