The present study examines the use of simple classical models of topological transition in gravitation theory and cosmology to construct topologically nontrivial models of space-time. Particular attention is given to the structure of space-time near a topological transition; cosmological singularity as the birth (or annihilation) of a universe; the transition of an open universe to a closed one; and the birth of a Planckeon (the merging of universes).
