Numerical models for the chemical evolution of the Galaxy have been computed in order to check the effect of overshooting from stellar cores on the interstellar medium enrichment. It is found that the observed CNO abundance distributions, rather than by standard models, are better reproduced by models which take overshooting into account. In this case, the estimated upper mass cut off for intermediate mass stars is Mup ≅ 6 M_sun;. The best agreement with the observations is obtained for an adopted mixing length parameter α ≅ 1.5.
