The synodic motion well known in lunar theory may be useful in satellite orbit analysis for investigations of periodic satellite-sun relations. After the general definition and some formulae for computation, the paper treats methods of orbit selection for various orbit families, different equivalent definitions and a generalization of sunsynchronity, applications in shadow computation, for sun occultation experiments, and sun illumination investigations.
