It is recommended that star samples used for absolute magnitude calibration in the spectral range B9-F2 should not be selected by spectral classification only, but rather with some age criterium guaranteeing a higher resolution in the B-V, M(v) plane. A study of six open clusters with MK spectral classifications, UBV photometry, and known distance moduli shows that spectroscopically defined dwarf stars occupy an interval of about two magnitudes above the MS in the range of late B to early F-type stars.
