A density matrix on the minisuperspace corresponding to a Friedmann universe with scale factor a, and containing a (homogeneous) massive scalar field phi, is studied using the linear coupling model of higher multipoles of Halliwell and Hawking (1985). Explicit calculations of the wavefunctions for all multipoles of the matter field and for the tensor modes of the metric are obtained. These modes can be seen as continuously measuring a and phi. The intrinsic time variable a is considered as a perfectly classical quantity, while phi can be regarded as being defined within the width of a narrow Gaussian.
