The gravitational exterior field outside a slowly rotating collapsing
star is examined. The final field in the course of the collapse is shown
to be expressed by a stationary metric which is exactly Kerr's metric,
and the other nonstationary parts of the metric damp away in a power law
at large time. The case of rapid rotation is also discussed.
