XUV and soft X-ray radiation of active galactic nuclei may be explained
by synchrotron emission of secondary electrons resulting from pp
collisions in the vicinity of a supermassive compact object. The
spectrum would be the natural extension of the ultraviolet emission
responsible for photoionization of the emission-line gas.
