The authors present spectroscopic observations of Nova Muscae 1983 obtained during the nebular phase. The line widths indicate an expansion velocity of about 1080 km s-1 and the Balmer decrement indicates an interstellar reddening E(B-V) of about 0.43. The derived ionic ratios suggest that helium, oxygen, nitrogen and iron are overabundant in the nova ejecta. Comparison with other novae shows that the brightest objects have an enhanced oxygen (CNO) abundance.
