If the feature around λ6540 in the circular polarization spectrum of EF Eri (seen only at polarization phase 0.45) is interpreted in terms of a Zeeman split σ--component of Hα emission, at least a significant fraction of the Hα flux originates in a typical magnetic field strength of 1.5±0.3 MG. Assuming a typical polar field strength of 30 MG and a dipolar field structure, this implies a height of the emission region of about 1 - 2 white dwarf radii.
