Imaging photometry of the south radio lobe of 3C 33 in the R and V bands is reported and used to determine a value for the spectral index in the optical range of α = -0.94±0.53. This value is compared to the radio spectral index and several possible mechanisms are proposed to explain the results. An Hα image of the radio lobe region is compared to the R and V images and used to derive an equivalent width for the Hα emission.
