Nova explosions in cataclysmic variables containing an oxygen neon magnesium white dwarf are considered. It is shown that these systems might contribute to a non negligible fraction of the observed classical nova outbursts. Using a simple model, the time evolution of bolometric luminosity, effective temperature, and temperature and density at the bottom of the accreted layer during one outburst are calculated. The consequences of shear mixing between the accreted layer and the white dwarf material are investigated in relation with observations of 2 neon enriched novae (Nova V 693 CrA 1981 and Nova Aql 1982). Nucleosynthesis in such objects is discussed.
