The structural characteristics of Wolf-Rayet stars are considered. It is shown that the spatial distribution and ratio of populations in O-type and B-type Wolf-Rayet stars are consistent with the hypothesis that components of close binary systems (masses less than about 20 solar mass) become Wolf-Rayet stars. All other stars with masses greater than about 40 solar mass also become Wolf-Rayet stars.
