The evidences of GRB 060614 shows that it cannot be simply modeled by either of the popular mechanisms for the conventional gamma-ray bursts, either a collapsar origin for a long GRB or a merging origin for a short GRB. A new progenitor model is required for this special gamma-ray burst. We propose here that the tidal disruption of a star by an intermediate mass black hole (IMBH) could be an ideal way to power the gamma-ray burst of GRB 060614. Our motivation is that the debris of the tidally disrupted star is likely to form an accretion disk surrounding the black hole. When the debris disk accretes at the Eddington-rate, the thermal instability in the inner region of the disk results in the seed magnetic field to be amplified, creating an ordered strong poloidal fields threading the black hole. A powerful jet extracted energy via BZ-process will be launched, giving birth to a burst. This is similar to the jets triggered by collapsars and binary mergers. The results show that the debris accreted onto the IMBH is a conceivable energy source for GRBs.
