Infrared photometry in the J, H, and K bands of 24 carbon stars from Stephenson's (1973) General Catalog of Carbon Stars (GCCS) is presented. The observations were carried out on four nights in late November 1982, using the near-infrared photometer attached to the Yunnan 1-meter telescope. The photometric system constants used in the observations are given in a table. The distribution of stars in the (J-H) and (H-K) two-color diagram is described, and corrected bolometric magnitudes are derived. The effective temperatures of the stars were estimated based on two empirical relations: the relation of T to (J-K); and the relation of bolometric magnitude to effective temperature T(e). It is suggested that, pending accurate measurement of the angular diameter of a carbon star, effective temperature can be evaluated using the relation T(e) = 7070/(J-K)J + 0.88. A list of the GCCS stars is provided.
