The identification of a strong variable X-ray source with the elliptical galaxy NGC 6212 is reported. Westerbork observations at 327, 609 and 1412 MHz show the presence of an unresolved (less than 12-arcsec) radio source with a nonthermal spectrum centered on the galaxy. The X-ray luminosity of about 10 to the 43rd erg/s, the variability, and presence of a radio component suggest an active nucleus in NGC 6212, possibly a new BL Lac or OVV. The object deserves the attention of optical spectroscopists in particular.
