We propose EPIC and Optical/UV Monitor observations of the low-redshift strong-lensing elliptical galaxy ESO325--G004, and its surrounding group Abell S0740. The principal aims of the observation are (1) to test for the presence of extended intra-group gas; (2) to measure a gas temperature for both the central galaxy component and the intra-group medium. The X-ray results will help to establish the contribution of the group potential to the lensing mass, and complement lensing and dynamical mass estimates for the system at smaller radii. Simultaneous UV imaging with the OM will exploit the colour contrast against the red lens galaxy, to constrain the properties of the star-forming background source.
